Dogs: Man’s Best Friends
In dictionaries, a "best friend" is typically defined as a person that one is closest to. However, best friends don't necessarily have to be human, as dogs are often called "man's best friend".

Like people, dogs are capable of love and affection. In a way, dogs make better friends than people because they are faithful to their masters. They are kind, and they appreciate everything you do for them. In return, they will love you as much as they can.

According to the Japan Pet Food Association, there are over 12.3 million dogs owned as pets in Japan. And it is estimated that 78 million dogs are owned in the United States alone.

Here are a few interesting facts about dogs:

  • Most dogs' sense of smell is almost 10,000 times stronger than humans'.
  • Labradors are the most popular dog breed in the United States.
  • Dogs are not color blind but they cannot see as many colors as humans; they see the world as a combination of yellow, white, blue, and gray.
  • Dalmatians are born completely white and develop their spots as they age.
  • Dogs only have sweat glands in their paws.
